Peace In Tumultuous Times
Philippians 4:6-7 TNIV
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Living in a fallen creation can cause us to live in a constant state of anxiety if we don't have an intimate relationship with Christ and a fervent prayer life.
This develops our trust in him, because we believe by faith that The One Who set us free spiritually can also set us free naturally.
Being free naturally means having peace of mind- untroubled, undisturbed well being - even as we deal with tumultuous life events.
When we practice the spiritual discipline of praying without ceasing, we invite The One who conquered death into the tumult with us.
The One Who set the captives free from the pit of hell can also set us free from tumult on earth.
As we pray we begin to see our tumult through the eyes of The One Who knows no defeat.
Tumultuous life events are disturbing to all of humanity. Therefore, our belief in and love for Christ does not negate our need to emote.
Nevertheless, our emotions don't dictate our faith in The One Who's able.
So, even as we cry, we trust.
Even as we grieve, we trust.
Even as we hurt, we trust.
Even as we struggle, we trust.
We trust because God is faithful never to leave us alone, and when we acknowledge him in prayer he will strengthen our hearts and direct our paths.
For this we give thanks and we can rejoice in The Lord always. (Philippians 4:4 Kjv)
When tumultuous times come to steal our peace, if we simply begin to pray, Christ will keep our minds stayed on him to help us make it through.
Question to consider:
Are you intimate with Christ and fervent in prayer so that when tumult comes you can experience his peace that surpasses understanding?
Prayer:
Thank You Lord for the spiritual weapon of prayer where we find peace in the midst of tumult. May your ever present help calm our fears as we persevere through with you. In Jesus name: amen.
